ABOUT ME

I believe that singing is another medium of storytelling that connects us to what makes us human. The primal, vulnerable, cathartic act of singing spurred me to become a teacher - I wanted to connect with a range of voices and their stories whilst simultaneously guiding my students to improve. I often have singers come to me for lessons asking how to become a ‘good singer’. While I understand this thought, I think forcing singing into the realm of bad/good can be detrimental to the journey of finding connection and truth. I am more focused on how we become authentic storytellers when training voices for the acting industry and beyond.

My pedagogy is predominantly based on my clients’ welfare - making sure they feel comfortable, seen and safe in my lessons. My work is consistently backed up by ongoing research and CPD, which allows me to work with voices safely. I also believe that methodology must not get in the way of learning, which is why I have taken a science based, person centred, adaptable approach to my teaching. I believe all teachers should not only have the evolving knowledge but also a lot of empathy.

I have a BA in Musical Theatre and also work as an actress in the profession. I have performed in a range of venues - The Hope Mill Theatre, MAST, Southwark Playhouse, The Garrick (West End), The Park, The Watermill and most recently The Old Vic. This means I am able to enhance lessons with a current and relevant take on training and the industry. Working as an actress alongside my teaching allows me to have the understanding of what my clients are facing. It enables my clients to grow but also work patiently through the tougher times.

I am currently based in Brixton and can hold lessons in my flat with my piano. I am also happy to travel if you have a piano at home and would feel more comfortable.

COVID-19 - I am currently holding all lessons on Zoom.

A first time lesson with me would normally consist of:

-  An informal chat about who you are and your goals through singing.

- A sing through your favourite song that you have brought with you (this can be any genre)

- If needed, we can work out a plan for the following lessons, look at different repertoire, look into the anatomy of the voice, discuss wellbeing in the creative industries – it’s completely up to you.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me via email or phone. I look forward to hearing from you!
